Right now, your contribution will help build our efforts for data collecting, editing (images, videos, and voice recordings), creating weather-tolerant signage, proper data storage for archives, data entry, and web design support to create a cohesive walking tour experience.

The mission of Pūlama iā Kona Heritage Council is to preserve, protect, and enhance the special qualities of historic Kona.

Pūlama īa Kona in 2014, created the current signs for almost 30 of the historic buildings along the ten mile ʻMāmalahoa Kona Heritage Corridorʻ scenic byway. Pūlama volunteers researched and interviewed building owners from the Komo Store to Keauhou Store to ensure accurate information is presented to residents and visitors. The 18” by 24” Sentra signs feature old photos and information about the original buildings. Signs were designed, created, and installed at no cost to the building owners.

In 2023 after 9 years we are in the process of fundraising and finding grants to revitalize, upgrade, correct, and enhance the historical signs. The Hawaiian sunshine and inclement weather have damaged many of our signs.

In addition to upgrading the signs as we find grant and fundraising money, our goal is to elevate a walking tour experience by adding a QR code connected to our website and on www.theclio.com, to enhance a self-guided walking tour. Below are examples of images and videos that will slowly be added to the experience. Contact us for more information.

The Clio creates a guide to the history and culture around you. They have 37172 historical entries from all across the country and 1477 walking tours, virtual tours of museums, heritage trails, and other curated experiences authored by hundreds of organizations. 150 new entries have been added, and 315 entries have been improved in the last 30 days. This will help archive family history for the next generation to access and bring self-reflection and empathy to our greater audience.
