1924 Monument Restoration Project

Kona Koyasan Daishiji Mission & Pulama

Project Manager: Antu Harvey

2020 - 2023

We received a $10,000 Historic Hawaii Foundation and $5,000 from the Further Foundation Grant and two Compliance Resolution Funds (CRF) from District 7, HI County Council Member Rebecca Villegas receiving $5,000, and District 8, HI County Council Member Dr. Holeka Inaba receiving $2,000 for the monument restoration and signage. Our grassroots community here from North to South Kona made the remainder of our funding possible to complete this project. With special mahalo to Waiaha Kumiai, Japanese Civics Club, Studio 7 Fine Arts, Mo Snell’s Kona Coffee, Polarity Balance and our Kona lauhala ohana, friends, family, and all our volunteers that made this project possible. We are grateful and look forward to doing more for our community. Okagesamade!

Kona Koyasan Daishiji Mission was the project’s primary sponsor, with Pūlama iā Kona as a partner.  Currently, we completed the restoration work, installed the interpretive sign (design above), added a 16ʻ ʻpicketʻ fenceline to frame the front of the area and planted native shrubs as the start of landscaping. We still welcome your donations towards its upkeep and maintenance!
